Jim, when I first got my 94 Grand Cherokee I tripped the alarm system. I
guess the anti-theft part was that the motor would start briefly then die
quickly. Sounds like what you are describing. If you have keys and it's not
too torn apart, you could reset the system. The process is listed in the
owner's manual. Let me know if you don't have the manual, and I'll post the
process.
