I'd just upgrade to ignition you already have. There are a couple ways to do
this and you won't even have to take the distributor out.

Jesse, if you have a GM or Prestolite distributor you can simply pull
the gear from the original and put it on the HEI. If you have a
Motorcraft/Autolite distributor the gear won't work. In that case, it
would be easier to use the Ford HEI equivalent -- the TFI upgrade. Just
remember that you need the TFI coil as well to get all the benefit.
Search for "Jeep TFI Upgrade". Basically you need the parts from a late
model (89 or so) Ford F-150 w/300 six. You have to hae wires too. All
the HEI/TFI caps use a wire that has a more positive connection than
older wires.

The flexplate on my '77 AMX 304 motor in a '73 J4000 came from a '71
Jeepster.

Speaking of fun, I'm thinking of beating up an old XJ body by dropping an
AMC 360, Grand Wagoneer 727 and NP208J with GW axles under it for running
around Reiter Trails (near my cabin)

OK, so this weekend I picked up a 304 with a 4 hole
balancer and a E-brock 600 for next to nothing! I
thought about dropping this 304 into my Commando.

I had the 304 Flywheel originally in my COmmando
turned on Friday. This 304 had a 3 hole balancer. I
would really like to use it since it was just turned.

Are the flywheels the same for the 3 and 4 hole
balanced 304's?

Thanks,

Jesse
