Thanks all. I think I'm gonna take it down and have the crank spiffed up, looks like I will be able to use it. I was thinking this may even be a 78 crank. I don't know for sure. Too many parts floatin' around.
If I get in a bind I can use the 72 crank. 
Lesson learned, check your oil on a car you aren't sure of.
This was the first road trip for my "new" 1980 Concord and though it was flawless around town, we took it 300 miles one wayand I was happy with it until it started banging at 9PM on the way home, .
Luckily I was only 7 miles from home and I pulled into a major truck stop, so I limped it in. A bottle of motor honey helped me crawl home, 25 MPH on the freeway shoulder.
Check yer oil, fellow listers. My first AMC that I have trashed, outside of racing them.....Russ
