Bart,

The 8 track player was a $1 whim -- I bought it at a
garage sale.  The tape cost me 25 cents.  I think the
biggest frustration for me is that since it ate my one
tape (and I'd never played the tape before) I don't
know if it's the player that needs fixing or if the
tape was just bad to begin with.  I have to go find
some more cheap tapes to find out.  

Thanks for the offer of putting me in touch with
someone who fixes the tapes.  I don't think I'm going
to put that much effort into ones that self destruct.
