Update on my restoration project. I found a 71 sportabout in excellent condition with extremely low miles. I am trying to decide which transport company to use.. like a pig in a poke! I am going to use one that was on the vendors list at planet houston amx.... I will have yet another parts car.. I think I will have to build another shed for the parts, hte hornets nest is getting full.   Does anyone know what is the correct and safe way to buy a car out of state? I need to know how to hand over the money. He sounds honest, but so do mnost older men... any ideas? Thanks for the help in advance, Linda

Yup, that is a long run. A few years ago I was mowing yard and rock flew
and hit Paige's silver Eagle front passenger door glass. Just shattered it.
After finishing mowing I went over to look at it. Her car is a 88, #100 of #2306
last year Eagles made, and I decided to go look at the 74 Sportabout wagon on
side of house I had been parting out and I was amazed that same door glass, bolt
in and fixed her car in hour. I didn't know that something so early would
interchange with something so late, but AMC was the kings of interchange. AMC
made a pledge in 1969/70 saying they would introduce a new car every six months.
And it wasn't really a new car, it was a variation of existing car. If keeping
count there was 21 models offered in 1970.....not counting late addition 2 model
Gremlins. Moved up to 23 different models for 1971 so was easy for AMC to say
'we just added a Sportabout' or 'try our new Matador' or 'move up to SST' for
instance.

I won't get into the Pacer or Matador coupe debate as to what brought down
AMC however, been there done that! I may add that it cost $40 million to develop
and make Pacers, which shared few things with other AMC models (IE: getting away
from interchangability just like 1964 again) but $40 million..... that is 1972-73
dollars and remember AMC bought Jeep from Willys just a few years before
for......$40 million. Sort of like wiping ass before pooping, or buying lotto
ticket, winning $1000 then using that $1000 to buy more lotto tickets. Years ago
there was a Pullana All Fruit commercial with guy what goes 'would yuh pleaze
pass thuh jelly?' which reminds me of some of the manergial decisions!

While it is great for restorers Eddie. I think this might
have had more to do with the demise of AMC than the Pacer. While there
were variations in it. The Gremlin, the 4 wheel drive Eagle still they
came out with a car in 1970 and kept the same car until they went out of
        business in 1987. Terry

That is a Heinz 57 car....a little bit of everything. Amazingly
the Hornet/Concord/ Eagle wagons and four doors are some of the
easiest AMCs to restore due to the sheer amount of stuff that
          interchanges between them.
