ALL AMC V8s are the same weight and external dementions from about 68 when
they came out till 91 or2 when they were killed by Chrysler. This includes
290/304 343/360 390/401 They are all the same basic engine. Any Gremlin with
a 304 can have a 401 dropped in it with no problems no weight problems
nothin. Unles it had a 904 tranny then you have to upgrade to the 998 or 727
but thats it. They may not have sold well or maybe they would i dont know
but
it should have been an option with the X package. Hell i dont think the X
package should ever have been a 6 cyl. The X package should have been a base
304 minimum.
