One more thing I just thought of on the hose! A lot of hot rodders have been using metal tubing bends with short length of straight hose. Two 90 degree bends would mean three short hoses and six clamps, but might be the ultimate solution. If concerned about the look of clamps, there is a wire-wrap "clamp" tool available that would make nice low profile connections. http://198.63.56.18/pages/how2.html AND http://198.63.56.18/pages/auto.html.

I'm finally ordering one. It's capable of making AC and hydraulic hose clamp connections instead of those expensive crimp tools for the standard crimp connectors. I'm just ordering the standard, lowest cost model for water hose connections. Not sure it will tighten enough for AC and power steering, might need the larger models for those. Still, $69.95 is much cheaper than the AC crimpers, even those that work in a vice, and it can be used for ANY hoses.

I have the same problem. I've got an old but decent one in there. 
Everyone lists the flex hose, which doesn't really work -- there's two 
90 degree bends that are just too tight. I carry a new flex in the truck 
Just In Case.
