Re: [AMC-list] Tennessee CLutch Co

That's good information to know Richard,
When I was converting the Javelin to a T5 I installed a used disc from a Mustang, (still looked good and is, just roughed up the faces with 120 grit paper) and a used pressure plate from an AMC, (that worked out also). Had the flywheel surfaced and a new ring gear installed on the flywheel. I was kinda experimenting to see how this swap worked out and was planning to buy a rebuilt or new disc and plate latter, but came to the realization that the used parts are working fine and why change them. That was 3 or 4 years ago. Granted I don't have a 5000 rpm side step the clutch pedal setup, by why do I need that when it's more of a cruiser/showgirl than a racer.

Hey Joe,
Let us know how it comes out. I am not putting foubt on your project. Just wanting to confirm mine. When we did the engine on the 82 Concord wagon, 5 speed, we did all the replacing and ordered out a new clutch and pressure plate kit. Hadda do a LOT of searching to find the right one, and did through a company ordering it out of MO. It took a couple months to put together and when we did and got in and pushed in the clutch to start, it went to the floow.

My bud is automatic guy and when we were assembling I noticed the pressure plate fingers compressing, but could not remember if that was a good sign or not, well not. So we searched around and fould a local place that does the same thing and my bud came back with the same thing. Better looking than new my original clutch and pressure plate. ($120, but had spent $270 on the kit)

When I first went out the drive releasing the clutch, it chattered and still does. A month or so later in delivering business cards to my transmsiion company friends, I asked them about the chatter. They asked IF I used a rebuilt clutch set and did. They installed 3 of those in the past and each one chatteres, so they don't do the rebuild way anymore.

I also had the flywheel turned by local auto shop fanatics, so I know all was perfect going in, just annoyed with the chatter. Sadly it will still last, just chatter. I HOPE this isn't the case, but when I read this, I just wondered... Good Luck!

Blessings,
Richard

I sent the 9-inch clutch from my 64 Classic to Tennessee Clutch in Nashville, TN a week ago today.?? They got it on Tuesday and Randall called me to say they could refurb it for me.? The total would be $55.? Of course I had to pay postage both days.? I got it back today and it looks too good to put back in the car.?? The pressure plate looks brand new?.?? I had asked for them to put a clutch alignment tool in the box and I would pay for it.? He said no charge.?? They not only but the little splined tool in there but they?inlcuded a Hastings clutch
tool which I don't even know how to use right now.?

I sent the pressure plate and the disk.? The disk I got back looks like brand new.? I have not installed anything yet but will do it in the next few days.?? I am very pleased.? Tennessee Clutch and Supply, Nashville, TN is the place.??

I had the flywheel machined at an auto machine shop in Gilroy, CA and have a cleaned and painted bellhousing and new throwout bearing so I guess I'm ready to do some reassembly.?I pulled the?top cover off of the T-95/overdrive tranny and it looks brand new inside.??It has been rebuilt in the past I think because it
has an odd color blue paint on it.?? ?It will be nice to take another step
forward with this 64 Classic which I saved from the crusher a few years ago.??
