Re: [AMC-list] AMC Engines

Hi- I might as well put my 2 cents in since I own several Eagles modified and have parts for them. I just built a 258 with HP cam ,H/D T/Chain set, Clifford 4V intake with 4V carb, reworked 4.0 Jeep head with H/D parts, tubular exh, with duals, HEI dist. and lots of HR parts. It sure runs better and has good power. Putting it in 83 SX/4 Eagle to auto cross with if lucky enough to do.
Our friend Eddie Stakes in Houston and I use to attend swap meets together. He sold AMX and I sold Mustang related things or what ever. He has been a great help to me over American Motor parts and advice. I wish I had gotten into AM stuff way before leaving Texas but since Kenosha is close where most were made; it seems logical to get into them. Sure cheaper than Mustang stuff and mostly original which I like. This repo stuff is what it is -some good -some bad. Really enjoyed Kenosha car and swap meet. Older couple there had a SX/4 black Eagle in EC and it almost looked brand new. Nice people too.
Just bought a rusted 1977 Hornet AMX intact with all parts there except hood which had too much rust in it. Snow was every where and hard to see what condition it all was in. I went several days before snow storm hit or I wouldn't have gone back to auction.Fire red with black interior with 258 and 4 speed intact. Under dash gauges were still in it with louvers still on it and all good glass. Been stored under large shed and have original WI . title with last registration in 1992 with local AMC owner. It's for sale at $795 or good trade that will sell. If not sold as is; then will part out but parts will cost more. Birds have done a number on it and it's been so cold; I can't clean or show pics yet. Believe it or not; tires are rotted and it still rolls when we loaded it on cable operated trailer. There was a yellow 73 Hornet there from Az. with decent sheet metal but needed lots of work . If I had known engine still ran; I would have bought it too. Got 3 NOS AMC factory f
enders plus 2 good Eagle type hoods along with car purchase from deceased owner's son. His dad was heavy into AMC's at one time. Got a lot of Borg Warner Carb kits in BWD cabinet in new shape too to sell as soon as I can find older carb. catalog. Have pair of brand new 86-88 Ford Truck front fenders still in repo cardboard. New FORD truck repo door and some new/GC tail gates for early FORD trucks around 1972 up. Got 64/66 T/B whole rear t/lit assy. in decent shape along with some T/B parts. Also , some European car owner manuals and books in decent shape or as is.
Let me know if you need any GC Eagle parts; I might have them; some were bought from N.M. and AZ. area. Have spare 4.0 head and like new Offy 4V alum. intake for 258 and a set of used Jeep 258 headers. Looking for good 4 cyl. rear end assy. in decent shape along with Eagle rear sway bar setup in Wi. area. NO JUNK. Thanks Take care and God Bless FORDMANTED@xxxxxxx PS -have lots of Mustang parts; esp. early convertibles or Shelby.

I would run the '87 head and valve cover but test the water ports for exposure to avoid seepage. Some have the cam button after the aluminum valve cover became stock for the 4.2L.

Hi guys...would the 1987 258<tel:1987%20258> have the same timing cover as the
4.0...thanks...Jim

For some strange reason I want to say your name is Andy? ;)

'82+ 4.2L would be best dealt with by having a 4.0L for parts. 4.0L Timing cover has a cam button plate built in and the cam bolt has the spring ball built in.
'87-08/90 Renix head works to get rid of the plastic valve cover but HO breathes better.
