So if I had a steelwater pump and switch to Alum, will I need the spacer?

No, you didn't get an 'out of spec' pump. AMC used two different pumps, one was steel and one was aluminum. And you are supposed to replace steel w/steel and alum w/alum. If you mix them up, like I did, then I had a 1/16" spacer made out of brass and sandwiched it between two gaskets where it bolted to the timing cover. Everything alignes up ok now on my 360. Did i just buy an out of spec water pump(CAT)? or are there different pulleys that are only a 1/16 in off?

My crankshaft and P/S pulley are perfectly aligned but when I installed the water pump/fan pulley it needs a 1/16 spacer to perfectly align it.

Thanks

Bob
