" Eddie,
"
" I spoke with you on the phone today, thank you for taking the time to
" speak with me. Anyway what i have is: 1973 amc hornet 2 dr hatch with
" a 258 six cyl with a 904 automatic transmission. what i am looking
" for is the Ford SR4 4speed transmission that was in the 1977 hornet
" amx with the 258 six cyl. I need everything to convert this over from
" the automatic. Clutch Pedal, Bellhousing, Shifter, Linkage, Flywheel,
" Pressure Plate...etc. right now the transmission, bellhousing, and
" shifter is the most important. if you know of anyone that is parting
" out such a vehicle or already has these items please let me know.

any particular reason you're set on '77 amx parts? if all you want is
a 4sp, there are other easy options. you will need amc linkage,
clutch, and bellhousing, but --

1. a t4 or t5 setup from a later amc should bolt in as easily as the
'77. the only non-mechanical clutch was in the eagle.

2. amc's late '70s t150 3sp is a ford tranny. the 4sp toploader
commonly found in earlier v8 mustangs etc. is a bolt-in swap. the
iron-case side shifting tranny in late '70s granadas is a 3+o/d.
aluminum-case 'srod' trannies are also in the family but need a spacer
plate on the bellhousing as their inputs were made ~5/8" longer.

3. ford t4 4sp and t5 5sp have the same bolt pattern as the sr4. iirc
4-cyl t4/t5 have the same pilot, clutch spline, and retainer as the
sr4, while v8 t5s - like the mustang 5.0's - have the same pilot,
clutch spline, and retainer as the t150 and toploader. and afaik all
have the same output spline. it's common to use a gm s10 t5 extension
case when swapping the ford tranny as it has the most forward shifter
location of all the various t5s and most easily clears bench seats.
several folks have put mustang 5.0 t5s behind amc sixes.
