I need a manual flywheel for a 1967 J3000 232 six cylinder. It is
smaller than the newer 232s & 258s, it took a 10 inch clutch & I am
having a hard time finding one. So all I can say is HELP!!!!!

Is this a request for a 1970 Rebel Machine with a 390 and a Torqueflite...it wouldn't have come with the 727...it would have had a M12

I was interested in the system mentioned on the list and sent an email asking for more info.
The following was sent to me Friday.
In case some of you are interested.
Don

Thank you for your interest in the all-new RetroTek BossEFI system. The
story in Hot Rod magazine came out a little early and our site was not ready
to go up so we will be adding info daily.

PRICING
To answer some basic questions, the system is set to target the $2000.00
price range for the 930cfm body and comes as a complete package. The
Throttle body bolts in place of a Holley or similar 4 barrel and has the
same overall dimensions, so the air cleaner will remain in the same
location.

SELF-TUNING COMPUTER
The computer is the first self-tuning system available and is a speed
density ,closed loop system . We use a PLX wide band (included) and the
system delivers hands free tuning at all loads and RPM?s. The key to our
system is its VE SYNC which reads the air fuel of your engine and re-writes
the base fuel table to deliver the exact Target Air Fuel ratio desired for
your engine. This can be done while viewing the info on a laptop, or without
one. The system re-programs itself so the oxygen sensor does not have to
work to correct an inaccurate calibration each time you run your engine.
Once this is done you can leaved the O2 in place to compensate for various
fuel and elevation differences. A video demonstrating a system being tuned
will be posted on the site shortly so keep checking it out.

ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS
The kit comes with a high pressure fuel pump that mounts on the chassis at
or below the fuel tank . For over 500HP and larger applications, an
ultra-high performance pump is required for an additional charge. Also there
is no need for a return fuel line although one may be used along with an EFI
bypass regulator. The return-less system is included in the kit but the
bypass style system is not included and can be purchased separately.

ECU & WIRING DETAILS
The computers dimensions are 6-inches long, 4.5-inches wide, and 1.65-inches
high; and it can be mounted either under the dash or in another dry
location. All wiring features weather pack connectors and are completely
terminated although you are required to install an o2 sensor bung in the
exhaust pipe. This can be done in one side only by any muffler shop and the
bung is included.

 SYSTEMS AVAILABLE
There BossEFI comes in 2 sizes, 930 & 1200 cfm ratings. The 930 will handle
up to 650hp and the 1200 is good for 900+hp with the correct size injectors.
There is a simple formula to size the injectors. We use 4 so the math is:

HP divided by 2 /4 = injector size.

The computer is capable of very small pulse widths so it is better to be a
little large in this area. An example of this is 500hp/2/4 = 62.5lbs. In this
case we would use 63 lb injectors. For Dual Quad systems we would have 8 injectors so HP/2/8= injector size. 500hp/2=250/8=31.25. We would supply 8 32lb injectors in the kit. You can use this simple math to work up any HP combo you have. This is a Quick tip only, call us if you are un sure. All necessary sensors are included so
this is a true bolt on system!!

RELEASE DATE & FURTHER INFO
We will be sending out periodic emails with more details about the BossEFI
system up to the Spring 2007 release date. Please stay tuned, as THE MOST
EXCITING NEW PERFORMANCE PRODUCT IN 20 YEARS is about to REVOLUTIONIZE your
vehicle.

Thanks for your interest,
RetroTek Speed

Does - Did anyone ever make V8 valve covers
just like the stockers only out of Aluminium ?

I was looking at one set that were thicker than
the cyl. head castings .........

Yes, There was such an animal. I recall that someAMC Valve cover like that
were advertised
in Stock Car Racing magazine back in the mid to late 70's.
There was some use of AMC V-8 in local stock car racing in the period
that some made some valve cover of this type were made. I don't recall who
and I still
have enough stuff in boxes that it would be difficult to find, but I'm betting
the company is long out of business any way and don't know where you'd find
any, except
possibly ebay. There are many better choices now. Edelbrock in there newest
catalogue
I get at SEMA has brought back the aluminum Edelbrock valve cover for AMC's
V-8.

After working on my 1:1 orange 74 Hornet for 3 solid years (and I mean 3
solid years as I am disabled and have the time) I need a break, being a
model car builder since 1957 I have a second issue Johan Rebel Machine
model I want to build. Yes for those that know me this is the infamous
"SWISS MACHINE", (long story off line on request) I just need pic's of
the interior and from what I have seen in pic's is the interior and
headliner a flat black or a dark charcoal grey? Mixing the color to
brush or spray in an air brush is no problem .

The emission control computer on my 83 SX/4 has failed
so I performed a 'Nutter' bypass so it would start. I
recently failed the HC emisson test. Any suggestions
on how to lower my HC emissions. Thanks.

We're swapping a 304 into my son's Matador. It currently has a 360 with a 727
transmission. The 304 came out of a Javelin with a 998. Will the flexplate
that's already on the 304 work correctly with the 727?

Marty,

I suspected that the ECM had failed on my 80 Spirit.
I was able to get a rebuilt ECM through NAPA. I
think, since it is an emissions control part, there
would be a good chance you could get a rebuilt one.

High HC failure;

Start with the basics,

Ignition timing

Vacuum Leaks

Ignition;
Spark Plugs
Secondary Wiring
Distributor
Coil

Implied- a miss fire

In addition, what else is wrong. Vacuum system hooked up correctly?
Smog pump or pulse air system complete and working correctly?
Catalytic Converter in good shape, installed and functioning.

Nutter By Pass is not an EPA approved modification!

My files currently show 6 different smog configurations that you could
have, which one do you have and is it hooked up correctly with all parts
functioning?

What state are you in that you have to concern yourself with passing
smog and what test is it that they are running. And how is it being run?
All states are not the same.

Is the car tuned correctly.

If the answer is no to any of the above and with additional information
not included in this post maybe I can help.

I realize I flooded the list with tuneup trivia, not particularly
AMC/Rambler related, so here's an antidote and apology.

I (finally) scanned and PDF'd the May 1950 issue of MODERN
MOTOR CAR, which features the 1950 Nash Rambler on the cover;
"The 1934 German NAG was one of many European makes using
convertible construction similar to Rambler". It's a real
internationalist rag; the fist gas-turbine car (no not X-ler);
the new MG Midget; British Auto Show; (nice photo of the Hille
Miglia Frazer-Nash); antique auto show in Boston (oldest entry:
1866 Dudgeon steam tractor) ...

http://wps.com/AMC scroll down a bit, there's a link to the
10-megabyte PDF.

If you have problems opening it let me know, I'll fix it.
First time I make a PDF.

Good Morning Tom,

It didn't bother me a bit, but I lurk more than post, so... Anyway,
I didn't get a chance to look at the mega-PDF, but about a couple things
on your Web site:

The air cleaner on your '70 Hornet looks a lot like the one on my Eagle.
I'll bet AMC didn't expect the '63 American to outlast the company by
almost 20+ years.
They probably didn't expect their steering columns to last that long either!
That Vintage Air unit under the dash looks beautiful... just like it
came out of the early '60s.

Regards,

Russ from Pa.
1988 Eagle
