Re: [AMC-list] A Strange Question-Myth Or Fact?

Definitely a myth! The AMC 360 went out of production with the last of the Grand Wagoneers in 1991. I'm sure they kept a few spare engines, but by the late 90s you couldn't get a new timing cover because some idiot from Chrysler trashed the molds. That's why we had such a problem in the early 2000s getting good ones -- Crown, who reproduced them, had to have them backward engineered from a good used core (or more likely an NOS replacement). Those problems are fixed now! In any case, by 2001 the AMC 360 had been out of production for 10 years. Would have cost more to put it back in production and fit it in the Dodge truck, and get it smog certified.

This is a strange one I have never heard before. A member of my AMC model group just brought this up. While visiting his uncle in 2001 his uncle had a brand new Dodge pickup. His uncle supposedly was told by the dealers mechanic that the truck had an AMC 360 in it as the Dodge 360 couldn't pass the pollution test at that time. No he is just going on what his uncle told him since he didn't look under the hood. To bad he didn't because he would have known if it was an AMC 360 or a Dodge 360.
